Located only 45 minutes drive from the Cape Town’s CBD, Simons Town is blessed with extraordinary land and marine-based natural resources and beauty. With moderate temperatures throughout the year, and facing north, it is a favourite destination for holidaymakers who enjoy the beaches, mountains and a more relaxed, quieter pace of life. It is also a popular destination for retirees or those wanting to escape the busy city-life, perhaps now working from home or commuting, as well as for overseas investors who spend the summer months here, Simon’s Town being one of the safest areas to live in South Africa.
Simons Town is best described as one of the most liveable towns in South Africa, the perfect place to Live, Work, Play and Invest.
Active Citizenship initiatives have delivered a few fantastic outcomes:
• The CLEAN SIMON’S TOWN programme which combines community Clean Ups (World Ocean Day, Mandela Day, Coastal Clean Up Day) with a move towards an eco-friendly/ no plastic retail environment.
• The SIMONS TOWN MOVIE NIGHT. Recognising that there was a potential need but that the nearest quality cinema was in the CT CBD it was decided to open a Movie Night on a monthly basis which was being held (pre-Covid) every second Tuesday at the False Bay Yacht Club.
• The SIMONS TOWN BOULES CLUB meets every Sunday afternoon (15h00) in Runciman Drive.
• The SIMONS TOWN CROQUET CLUB was on the verge of being launched using the bowling green at the Simon’s Town Country Club as Covid restrictions hit.
There are many other needs which lend themselves to Active Citizenship and we look forward to ‘community champions’ coming forward to drive such initiatives.
